I am infused (if that’s the right word) with an overwhelming desire to lose weight and get back into shape — inasmuch as I have ever been in shape in my adult life.
The City of Cleveland has a program called “Clevelanders in Motion” in cooperation with the YMCA. They’ve marked eight walking “trails” (varying in length from 1 to 3.5 miles) around the downtown area (and I understand that there are neighborhood versions as well). So far, the longest I’ve gone is about 2.6 miles, walking at lunch for around an hour. I’m obviously not going to qualify for the next Olympics at this rate, but I definitely feel better already, and while I’m not losing weight by leaps and bounds, I have lost some weight. I have a long way to go, but like any trip, this one is shorter for every few steps taken. And that’s a good thing.
Now I just have to talk Tom into letting me take some beginning fencing (épée) this Fall. And next week, I’m going up to Fitworks to use the free 14 day pass (and see if I can afford to join on a regular basis). I’m serious about this — for myself primarily, but also because there’s someone I want to witness to, and only an idiot (which I hope I’m not) would think that my witness isn’t affected by looking like I do. There may not really be “deadly sins”, but gluttony and sloth are still sins. Give me victory, Lord!
